Printable heat-shrink continuous tubing for wire and cable

April 14, 2021 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

TE Connectivity has extended its System 6 “ladder” format range to include printable heat-shrink tubing in continuous lengths. This new offering will allow customers to easily create their own custom identification sleeves for wire and cable applications. The new format maintains the high quality and performance TE is known for, while offering extended flexibility that allows for customizable sleeve lengths.

TE printable heat shrink tubing“By expanding our portfolio, we are able to more effectively direct our customers to the most beneficial solution for their specific application,” said Phillippe Contri, TE product manager. “The new Continuous Tubing and the System 6 ‘ladder’ format have the same level of performance and quality, but we’re now able to offer the customer a format choice that is most impactful for their needs.”

The new printable Continuous Tubing can be used with TE qualified thermal transfer printer’s and dedicated ribbon to give high-definition, durable markings. Using TE WINTOTAL identification software, customers can create identification tubing anywhere from 5 to 5,000 mm (0.197 to 196.85 in.) in length and it is available in diameters ranging from 2.4 to 50.8 mm (0.094 to 2 in.). The continuous tubing is supplied on 40- or 50-meter reels depending on product family and supplied diameter.

“Spooled continuous reels are useful when printing identical tubing — especially when the user requires more flexibility on the length needed,” said Contri. “In addition, the ‘open’ profile of the Continuous Tubing makes it easier to apply onto the wire and reduce application time.”

TE Continuous Tubing can be mounted on a TE universal reel holder. Certain TE printer accessories can be used to create custom sleeve lengths simultaneously or a perforation line. That way, the tubing stays continuous while marking each individual identification print for easy removal later on.

With the new Continuous Tubing, customers will reduce waste and spending, as it costs 15% less per unit length than its pre-cut counterpart. However, by widening its product offering, TE can direct customers to the correct solution for their application: the new Continuous Tube or the equivalent System 6 “ladder” format that has the same level of quality and performance.

The printable heat-shrink tubing is manufactured from durable radiation crosslinked material, making it rugged and durable enough for use on wire and cables in harsh environments and conditions. The new continuous format conforms to the same, demanding specifications of System 6. These specifications include military, low fire, smoke and toxicity, extreme temperatures, and fuel and chemical resistance.
