Top five markets for cable machinery

December 19, 2013 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

Contributed by Ben Dudley, marketing at Meltech

Cable machinery is an integral part of engineering, providing countless benefits across a range of different industries.

There is so much that can be done with cable machinery that it can be difficult to determine the top uses of the process. Of course, personal opinion on the most beneficial cable machinery uses will vary from individual to individual depending on the nature of the business they are involved in, but the following list has been compiled to show how effective and varied cable machinery can be.

Manufacture of cable

Auto coilers provide automated winding of extruded metal products that run at up to 150 m per minute.

Manufacturing, winding, coiling, stranding, binding and more processes can be done with several different types of machines. These machines must offer precise control technology that calculates the precise tensioning of the wire, cable or plastic during winding. In addition, control systems must be easy to operate, allowing users to easily select the correct winding pitch and reel size for a particular metal, cable or plastic profile. Finally, most machines from Meltech offer semi- or fully automatic control, further simplifying machine operation.

Meltech offers a full range of engineering solutions for cable, pipe, rope, tube or wire from 0.1 to 300 mm diameter and beyond. As cable needs to be produced in various lengths, widths and sizes to fulfill a wide range of functions, it is essential that the machinery used can be relied upon to produce bespoke styles and measurements of copper. As cable machinery is so advanced in the modern era, numerous industries are able to benefit.

Automotive
The strength, reliability and efficiency of cable makes it an ideal component for automotive construction, providing car manufactures with the guarantees they need. Used throughout the structure of a vehicle for many different purposes, cable machinery is responsible for millions of safe car journeys every day.

Marine
As with the automotive industry, safety is a key concern when producing marine equipment, machinery or transport. The slightest error in these circumstances could result in catastrophic consequences, making cable machinery a vital tool for those who work in, or produce equipment for, a marine environment.

Oil & Gas
Drilling for oil or gas is a risky business, often taking place in extremely hazardous or challenging conditions. However, it is also extremely profitable for those who do it successfully and brings in billions of pounds every year. The rewards are impossible to ignore, and the strength and safety that comes alongside the use of cable machinery helps to reduce the possibility of a damaging accident.

Telecommunications
Telephone cables can be seen across the world, connecting millions of homes, businesses and services. These cables have to be tough to endure years of exposure to wind, adverse weather conditions, accidents and attempted vandalism. Cable machinery can be used to strengthen these cables, helping people to guarantee their service works and reduce repair costs for the providers.

This is a very brief insight into the world of cable machinery, looking at some of the more general uses. With the engineering industry adapting all of the time and new uses being found for this highly adaptable machinery, who knows what the future may hold?
