3. Soft, flexible cable
This next design is mostly about the jacketing. Coming from Northwire, its second-generation Biocompatic II line offers a softer durometer rating of 55 Shore A versus 68 Shore A in the first generation.
This TPE material surpasses silicone for higher autoclave cycles, crush and impact resistance, said Linda Brown, sales engineer. It’s rated USP Class 6 and is ROhS compliant. It also requires less processing and lead time, so is less expensive. In medical applications, the more supple material is soft against skin while it offers a higher level of flexibility and bend radius in industrial applications when compared to the first gen Biocompatic here.
