High-speed data cables qualified for NewSpace applications

May 1, 2019 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) has introduced a new collection of high-speed data cables and high-frequency microwave/RF assemblies for the emerging NewSpace economy. Leading the way are innovative companies such as SpaceX that use smaller, sleeker, lower-cost satellites and vehicles with fast-paced designs and frequent, inexpensive launch capabilities. As a result, customers want qualified, reliable cables and assemblies at a reduced price delivered quickly for NewSpace applications to help bring connectivity to the world in a way that has never been done in the past.

WL Gore NewSpace high-speed data cablesGore combines decades of traditional spaceflight program experience, materials expertise, and a deep understanding of products and appropriately scoped test processes to meet demanding NewSpace program schedules varying from 1 to 5 years. Gore Space cables and assemblies offer extremely robust options in small, low-mass, flexible designs for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) applications. All of Gore’s inventive solutions are qualified according to NASA EEEINST-002 Level 2, ESA ECSS-Q-ST-60-13C Class 3, and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6+.

Products such as Gore Hook-Up Wires ensure power is delivered up to 600 V safely and reliably in the most demanding orbit environments. Gore High Speed Data Cables improve signal quality and transmit critical information while meeting and exceeding standard protocols such as Ethernet Cat6a, XAIU, USB, and HDMI.

Gore Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies offer the smallest diameter sizes and operate reliably from DC to 40 GHz with low loss for high-density, high-frequency and high-power applications. Gore also offers a variety of connector systems engineered to complement the performance of each assembly type, minimizing loss and reflection for optimized signal transmission.

WLG-SpaceFlight-high-speed-data-cablesThese new solutions from Gore are durable, chemically inert and thermally resistant against extreme temperatures, shock, vibration, radiation, atomic oxygen, and outgassing. Also, Gore’s advanced cable technologies substantially reduce size and
weight to help minimize problems associated with balancing challenging mass budgets.

Gore has delivered proven solutions in hundreds of global spaceflight programs for more than 50 years. The 100% success rate of these products demonstrates Gore’s commitment to helping customers successfully launch space vehicles and satellites, explore planets, observe distant events and objects, and ensure astronauts’ safe return.

Gore Space Cables and Assemblies for NewSpace and traditional spaceflight applications will be on display at the 2019 Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 8-11 in Booth 1445.
