General Cable launches high-speed, low-friction industrial cables

December 10, 2014 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

General-Cable-ArmoredWires_XLFGeneral Cable, Highland Heights, Ky., has introduced its High Speed, Xtra Low Friction (XLF) line of low- and medium-voltage industrial power cable. It is engineered with General Cable’s new high-speed technology for fast and easy installation and the latest lead-free EPR insulation technology.

The XLF technology provides a significant reduction in installation pulling force, upwards to 80% versus standard cable, which makes it easier and safer to install into conduit, duct or cable tray and results in time, labor and money savings for the electrical contractor. The incorporation of lead-free EPR insulation allows 600 V and 5 to 35 kV industrial low- and medium-voltage cables to add ROHS compliance to their list of industry approvals.

“The High Speed XLF jacket technology delivers real cost savings to the electrical contractor, and provides for added flexibility in both the planning and installation phases of a project,” said Kris Morrow, General Cable’s Product Manager for Industrial Products. “The electrical contractor’s ability to benefit from installation efficiencies directly impacts profitability and assists in meeting tight project deadlines.”

“Installers will experience a substantial reduction in pulling force due to the lower coefficient of friction provided by the High Speed XLF technology,” said Todd Sweeney, Vice President & General Manager, North America, Industrial and Cord Products. “Our High Speed XLF cable offers a value-added advantage to the electrical contractor in time, labor and installed cost. We are particularly excited about the integration of the High Speed XLF technology into our high performance LSZH, CPE and XL-CPE product lines, resulting in the industry’s only complete, low friction cable offering available from stock. The addition of the lead-free EPR insulation and High Speed XLF technologies to our entire low- and medium-voltage product lines demonstrates General Cable’s commitment to providing the most comprehensive industrial cable solutions to the industry.”

General Cable’s High Speed XLF and Lead-Free EPR insulation cables are available in the following constructions:

  • 600 V EPR/XL-CPE DuraSheath Power Cable
  • 2.4 kV EPR/XL-CPE DuraSheath Power Cable*
  • 600 V XLPO/XLPO GenFree II Low-Smoke, Zero-Halogen Power Cable
  • 5 kV to 35 kV EPR/PVC Jacketed Uniblend Medium-Voltage Power Cable
  • 5 kV to 35 kV EPR/CPE Jacketed Uniblen Medium-Voltage Power Cable
  • 5 kV to 35 kV EPR/LSZH Jacketed GenFree Uniblend Medium-Voltage Power Cable
  • 5 kV to 35 kV EPR/Wire Shield CPE Jacketed UniShield Medium-Voltage Power Cable
  • 2.4 kV to 35 kV EPR/AIA/PVC Jacketed Duralox Interlocked Armor Cable**
  • *2.4 kV DuraSheath does incorporate Lead-Free EPR insulation

** Duralox designs do not incorporate High Speed XLF Technology
