TE Connectivity now offers two resources to help with cable harness assembly repairs.

In addition to offering a complete line of cable harness repair products, TE Connectivity, Harrisburg, Pa., is now offering an in-depth manual and a quick-reference guide to simplify assembly repair. Making permanent or temporary repairs to restore the harness can help extend the life of complex cable assemblies but doing so must be done with great care to avoid failure and unsafe designs.

TE’sproduct line for quick, effective field repairs includes repair conductors, jackets, bundles, shields and backshells. In the new resources, users are taught how to use these components correctly.

“Repairing complex sealed cable assemblies can be more desirable than replacing them, particularly in military applications where the ability to repair an assembly quickly can be the difference between mission success or failure,” said John Kuster, Senior Product Manager, Global Aerospace, Defense & Marine, TE. “A variety of TE’s Raychem heat-shrinkable products are widely accessible, easy to install, and designed to extend the life of assemblies.”

The General Harness Repair Manual offers step-by-step instructions and illustrations to safely make repairs.

The two new resources, available as downloadable PDFs or from TE and its distributors, give users a quick lesson on repairing cable harnesses. The Harness Repair Products – Quick Reference Manual is just a short, product guide, with thumbnail images and key specs listed in chart format. The General Harness Repair Manual is a more in-depth document, featuring more than 50 pages including step-by-step instructions and illustrated photos of the procedures required to correctly repair a harness.

The manuals emphasize minimum disruption to circuits and harness structure in making common repairs – generally around the area of the connector. Jacket repair, shield repair, and conductor splicing and repair is also covered as well as proper tools needed for the repair work.
